Where There’s Smoke
original rock & roll from Colorado
Gritty, soulful, funky, and unpretentious.
Where There’s Smoke’s sound is rock & roll at its core. Their debut album “There’s Fire” couples blues-toned guitar lines with the raw punch of ’90s grunge and the earthy swagger of roots rock. Think punchy riffs and heartfelt lyrics that sit somewhere between stadium ambition and garage-band authenticity.
There’s a warmth and depth to their grooves, with slide accents and melodic drive giving each track its own personality. Whether it’s a driving anthem or a smoky mid-tempo burner, this music feels lived in and built to connect.
The story so far…
Where There’s Smoke was sparked by a long-overdue collision. Guitarists and vocalists Peter Stelling and Roy Steinbock had been running in concentric circles for years, repeatedly told by friends, “You two need to get together and jam.” When it finally happened, the chemistry was immediate and undeniable. A spark was lit that stoked the fire behind Where There’s Smoke.
Sharing both rhythm and lead guitar duties, Peter and Roy also trade lead vocals and blend into rich, soulful harmonies that give the band its signature sound. Once they knew what they had was special, they brought in Peter’s longtime friend, ultra talented bassist and producer Jimmy Ruberto to help anchor and refine the sonic direction.
After being fortunate to collaborate with several exceptional studio drummers, the band found its final ingredient in 2025 with the addition of drummer Wolf Loescher, locking in the lineup and completing the sound. Rooted in feel, chemistry, and honest musicianship, Where There’s Smoke is built on connection — between players, songs, and the audience.
